Test May Help Identify The Risk Of Premature Delivery

Testing for a panel of proteins in cervical and amniotic fluids might help doctors to identify danger of premature delivery in pregnant women.
At present, there are no such tests , but if perfected such a tool could supplement a test now available that can determine which women face a lower risk of delivering early.

Dr. Bo Jacobsson, who is with the perinatal center at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, and senior author of a study on the test, says that it is a breakthrough since it provides a high positive predictive value. However, the effectiveness of the test needs to be confirmed in prospective studies.
