Sleep Disturbances In Children May Be Due To Prenatal Alcohol Exposure

Researchers says that mother who consumes excess alcohol during pregnancy can disrupt their children’s sleep for years afterward.

It was found that alcohol consumption during pregnancy predict poor sleep and also increases risk of sleep disturbances in children at 8 years.

The study also concluded that sleep disturbances in children are also linked up with depressive symptoms, ADHD disorder, obesity and poor neurobehavioral functioning.alcohol consumption

Results indicate that children exposed prenatally to alcohol were 2.5 times more likely to have a short sleep duration of 7.7 hours or less and 3.6 times more likely to have a low sleep efficiency of 77.2 percent or less across all nights, independent of body size at birth and current maternal alcohol use.
