4 Months Pregnant

– Say hello to the second trimester!

When you are 4 months pregnant you can say hello to your second trimester. This is the time to enjoy your pregnancy because it is known as the best period of it.

It is possible to start feeling the baby move inside, and this is something that women are really excited about because they start thinking of the little one as an individual and not something that is a part of them.

Make sure that you have enough time to enjoy this period and that you aren’t stressed about other things that might not be as important as your pregnancy and the baby.

What to Expect When you are Fourth Months Pregnant?

The good news is that the annoying symptoms of the first trimester already disappeared such as dizziness, nausea and morning sickness; so you can truly enjoy your pregnancy. In case your belly wasn’t noticeable until now, this is the time when people will start noticing your condition.

Because of your growing belly, when you are in fourth month, it will become uncomfortable to sleep on your back, so you should sleep on your sides. Anyway, this is a lot safer during this period. This is because this way the blood flow to the baby will increase.

4th Month of Pregnancy Symptoms

1. Constipation

This is one of the 4 months pregnant symptoms that you have to face. Although it is quite uncomfortable, you might be amazed at the wonders that water could do. Make sure that you have more water during this period to make the symptom less bothersome. Also consider having a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.

2. Heartburn

When you are 4 months pregnant there is a new symptom that appears: heartburn. This is caused by the fact that your digestion slows down because of the pregnancy. Although the symptom itself is quite annoying, there are some things that you could do to make it better. Make sure that you don’t have large meals, instead you should have several smaller ones. Between the meals you should drink a lot of water.

3. Blotchy Skin Tone

The changes regarding your skin are caused by the pregnancy hormones. Make sure that your skin is in a good condition by using mild cleaners, moisturizers and toners. You may see that the nipples and the areola get a darker color and the veins of the breast could also get even more pronounced during this month.

4. Nausea and Vomiting

Although it is not likely to still have morning sickness during the 4th month of pregnancy, there are some women that experience it during their entire pregnancy. Nonetheless the vomiting and the nausea could also be caused by smells and odors that you are more sensitive about when being pregnant.

5. Nosebleeds Continue to Appear

Bleeding is never a good sign, but when being pregnant mild nosebleeds shouldn’t get you worried. They occur because you have a higher blood volume in your system and this means that there is more pressure that could make your nose bleed.

6. Hemorrhoids

It’s not a must to develop hemorrhoids, but there are some women who have them. This is because there is more pressure on the rectal veins. This is why these veins could trap some blood, get painful or itchy, and they could also protrude from the anus in some cases.

7. Bleeding Gums

Because of the pregnancy hormones that your body is producing while being 4 month pregnant, your gums could become softer and more sensitive. This is why it is possible that when you are brushing your teeth you may bruise them and see them bleed. Although this is no reason for concern, it might be best to see your dentist about it.

8. Frequent Urination

Pregnant women are known for going to the toilet many times. This is because their uterus is increasing in size to make more space for the growing fetus and it is pressing against the bladder. This, in turn, will be able to hold less urine and make women use the restroom more often. The condition will be present during the entire pregnancy being one of the most constant pregnancy symptoms.

9. Shortness of Breath

Some of the pregnant women constantly feel like they have been running, because they have a shortness of breath. As it has been mentioned before the uterus is pressing against the surrounding organs, and the lungs don’t escape this either. Since women are able to take smaller breaths, it is just normal to experience some shortness of breath.

10. Increased Vaginal Discharge

In case you see some changes in the vaginal discharge during 4th month of pregnancy, you shouldn’t get worried about it. This is because of the hormonal changes and also because your uterus is nourishing a fetus, that on its own causes some of the changes.

4 Months Pregnant and Baby Evolution

By this time the little one really looks like and acts like a human being. The truth is that his or head is still disproportionally big considering his or her little body, but there are numerous features developed during the fourth pregnancy month, such as the eyelids, lashes and eyebrows.

One of the cutest things that could happen is for the little one to start sucking his or her thumb. There is a lot that the little one can do, like yawning and swallowing, and even different facial expressions.

Mother’s Responsibilities in 4 Months Pregnancy

This is the time when you need to have a lot of tests performed. In some cases it might become uncomfortable to have doctors sticking needles into you, but they are important to be sure that the baby is healthy and will not have birth defects.

  • Glucose screening is something that all pregnant women have to go through during the 4th month. This is because in many cases women can develop gestational diabetes, a kind of diabetes that appears only during pregnancy. In case the results will be positive, your doctor will need to monitor the development of your pregnancy more closely.
  • Choosing the name is something that you have to consider. Since you don’t know the gender of the little one yet, you should find both boys’ and girls’ name that you like when being 4 months pregnant.
