4 week pregnantAt the end of this week, you are waiting for your periods to come. You can suspect your pregnancy, if you don’t get your periods.

In order to confirm your pregnancy, you can perform a simple test by yourself.

This test involves measuring the levels of hCG. If the level is greater than normal, then it is positive, which means that you are pregnant.

Physically you will not notice any changes in your body; you don’t gain any weight because your baby is so little at pregnancy week 4.

What are the physical changes that occur in your body during pregnancy week 4?

During this week, you will feel differently than the previous weeks. There is a greater increase in your pregnancy symptoms. Physically, you can experience the following symptoms:

  • Missed periods
  • Morning sickness
  • Vomiting
  • Bloating
  • Frequent urination
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Light cramping
  • Feeling full
  • Poor appetite
  • Breast tenderness
  • Getting tired very soon

You will suffer from morning sickness at any time of the day. But, most of the pregnant women will not experience this until their 6th week of pregnancy. This is due to various changes that take place in your body.

If you don’t feel any of the above symptoms, then it is truly wonderful. Don’t worry about it, it is perfectly normal condition.

Care that should be taken during pregnancy week 4:

  • Take plenty of rest
  • Wear a good support bra
  • Eat smaller meals instead of larger ones

By the end of pregnancy week 4, the fertilized egg is implanted more deeply into the lining of the uterus and the amniotic cavity. Your amniotic cavity is filled with amniotic fluid. Once implanted, your body starts producing hCG hormone. This hormone helps to maintain the uterus lining. Also, it sends a signal to your ovaries to stop releasing the egg each month.

During pregnancy week 4, some of you can experience spotting of blood as a result of implantation.

What are the changes that occur in the fetus during pregnancy week 4?

At this week, your baby is about .014 to .04 inches long during pregnancy week 4. There are two layers of cells connected to your baby, called as epiblast and hypoblast. There are two other structures that will develop during pregnancy week 4; they are amnion and the yolk sac.

Amnion is full of amniotic fluid that surrounds and protects your growing embryo. The yolk sac will produce the blood and helps in nourishing the embryo until the placenta takes over that role. Baby’s organs begin to develop in this week.

Basically during pregnancy week 4, the home for your little baby is under rapid construction. There are several different layers of cells developing in your baby, which again develop into your baby’s organs and the other body parts. The remaining layers form your baby’s nervous system along with brain.

Chance of developing twins:

You have 80 percent chances of having twins. They can be fraternal or identical. When two are released and each is fertilized with different sperms, then it results in fraternal twins. When the single fertilized egg splits into two then it results in identical twins.

As soon as you came to know that you are pregnant, schedule an appointment with your obstetrician. Prenatal care is very essential. Initial weeks during your pregnancy are the most important ones for your child’s development.

As this is the most important period of your pregnancy, you must be very careful throughout the 1st trimester of your pregnancy. Exposure to any harmful substances will cause damage or harm to the developing fetus. So, stay away from the toxins or pollutants that are harmful for your baby’s development.
