Financial Incentives For Expecting Moms Improves Prenatal Care

New research finds, offering cash reward for moms-to-be and their obstetricians or midwives may enhance their use of prenatal care and make for healthier babies.
Dr. Meredith B. Rosenthal of the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and her colleagues looked at a program run by a union-sponsored health plan, the Culinary Health Fund of Las Vegas.
In November 1999, Healthy Pregnancy Program was launched by health plan, which offers $100 for pregnant members upon delivering their baby and if they began seeking prenatal care in their first trimester and continued to have regular prenatal visits.
Even the pregnant members’ obstetrician or her midwife also receives $100 if these conditions are met.
