If the doctor tells you that the itching is caused by a change in the vaginal pH level, there are different measures that you could take.
As an example, in case of itching during pregnancy you could try taking a bath with added baking soda or make a paste of water and baking soda and apply it over the itchy areas. It could also be helpful to apply a cold compress over the affected area.
Preventing the vaginal itching
In case of pregnancy itching, just as in any other case, it is better to prevent the problem than to treat it. As measures of prevention, you have to make sure that you are dry and clean.
After you are done at the toilet, it is best to wipe from front to back to make sure that no bacteria will get to the vagina.
If you are affected by itching during pregnancy you should avoid douching and the detergents that you use should be scentless. When it comes to clothing, opt for the loose clothes and wear cotton panties. When you are bathing, you shouldn’t be using bubble bath that is scented and opt for soap for sensitive skin.
You may notice that the larger the belly gets, the more pregnancy itching you experience. Besides the vagina, this symptom usually appears around the belly and the breasts. It’s not the most pleasant experience, but it is normal for it to appear especially during the second and third trimester.
Causes of itching skin
The itching during pregnancy is caused by the fact that the skin needs to stretch to accommodate the growing uterus. In the same time the pregnancy hormones also have a word to say when it comes to pregnancy itching. If the itching is severe around the legs and arms you may be affected by pruritic urticarial papules and plaques during pregnancy, also known as PUPPP.
As you can see, there are many different causes leading to itching during pregnancy and in some cases there is nothing to do to avoid it. You just have to find a treatment.
