6 Ways to Cope with Negative Feelings During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is considered one of the most special times in a woman’s life but this phase is also accompanied with hormonal changes which can lead to mood swings, negative feelings and even depression. It is important not to let these feelings get to you and change the way you embrace your pregnancy. It is a time when you should remain happy, experience joy and explore the beautiful nine months happily. The following are the top tips to cope with negative feelings during pregnancy.

ways to cope with negative feelings during pregnancy

1. Go for a Long Walk

Whenever you feel sad, depressed or low, go for a long walk to clear your head and to feel fresh again. Make sure you have your doctor’s permission to go for a walk since some pregnancies are complicated and a walk may not be recommended.  When you walk, just focus on your breathing and let the fresh air enter your body.

2. Write your Thoughts Down in a Diary

Sometimes when your thoughts don’t get an outlet, they can suffocate you and may make you feel negative. Thus it is a good idea to write them all down in a diary or a journal so as to let them flow out of you. This will make you feel relieved and better.  Your emotions can hide your deepest fears and by writing them down, you can find a way to channel the negative energy.

3. Talk to Someone you Trust

If there is someone in your life who you can talk to and who you can trust, then make sure you call them or ask them to visit so as to talk to openly. This is another way to channel your inner thoughts and feelings and may leave you feeling positive all over again.  Remember it’s okay to feel negative once in a while.

4. Talk to Other Women who have Gone through Pregnancy

If there is someone in your life who you know has gone through pregnancy, then talking to them could be another way to cope with your negative thoughts. They might tell you how it is common to feel mood swings and negativity during this phase and this might make you feel better. Discuss your emotions and thoughts with them and listen to what they have to say.

5. Do Something which makes you Feel Happy

Rather than sitting and thinking negative thoughts, change the frequency by doing something which you truly enjoy doing. If you like reading, pick up a happy book or if you like painting, let the inner artist in you flow freely on a canvas.

6. Pamper Yourself

Pregnancy can be really tiring and this can be another reason for feeling negative. So make sure you pamper yourself and feel relaxed. Go for a hair spa, a pedicure, a haircut or any other service which may make you feel better.  Remember that you must not get any service which may be harmful for you or the baby so always consult the doctor first.
