Nyquil During Pregnancy

For sure you know that there is some medication that is safe during pregnancy, but there are some that aren’t. Should you take Nyquil during pregnancy? According to the specialists the answer is no. This is because this is one of the medications that contain alcohol.

This could lead to developmental problems in case of the baby or fetal alcohol syndrome. It’s not only the first trimester when you should avoid the medication, but during all three trimesters.

The majority of the doctors say that it is safe to take Dayquil because this doesn’t contain any alcohol. Still the best thing you can do is to talk to your health care provider and to weigh the risks and the benefits.

What should you use?

Pregnant women are more prone to catch a cold and so they should know what kind of medication they are allowed to use.

Besides not being able to take Nyquil during pregnancy you should also stay away from those medications that promise sustained action to treat several symptoms.

If you want to take some medication, one of those that you could take is Tylenol. Naturally there are some other safe alternatives as well, like Sudafed, Dristan, Actifed and Robitussin. In the same time Halls and nasal decongestion sprays are also considered to be safe.

Additional information

If you would like to use Nyquil when being pregnant or other kinds of over the counter cold medication you should be really careful.

If you aren’t sure whether the medication you want to take is safe or not the best thing you could do is to discuss the matter with your health care provider.

No matter what kind of medication you have in mind, remember that it is best not to take anything during the first trimester of your pregnancy.
