A miscarriage isn’t something that is easy for women to get over, and this is why the majority of people are interested in the causes of abortion.

What are the causes of abortion?
The exact cause isn’t always known. Usually it happens in the first trimester and they include collagen vascular disease, chromosomal abnormalities, hormonal problems, diabetes, congenital abnormalities of the uterus and infection.
Collagen vascular diseases
This is a risk factor of abortion since it is a disease that attacks the organs of a person. This means that the body creates antibodies against the cells of its own organs.
The condition is very serious during a pregnancy. The most dangerous ones in case of a pregnancy include antiphospholipid antibody syndrome and systemic lupus erythematous.

Diabetes
In the majority of the cases this one of the causes of abortion is easily manageable during a pregnancy in case the woman in question and her doctor work closely.
Nonetheless in case it isn’t controlled it could cause abortion or birth defects to the baby. There are some other hazards as well associated with this risk factor of pregnancy loss and this is why it is important to keep the blood sugar level under control.
Hormonal factors
Such factors include thyroid disease, Cushing’s syndrome and polycystic ovary syndrome. Another one of the causes of abortion is said to be the malfunction of the corpus luteum of the ovary.
This theory is still controversial, because some of the studies didn’t show any connection between the problem and pregnancy loss.
Infections
This risk factor of loss of pregnancy can be associated with numerous different organs. Such infections include toxoplasma gondii, listeria monocytogenes, rubella, parvovirus B19, cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex.
Abnormal structural anatomy
An important cause of loss of miscarriage is an abnormal uterus. In some of the cases the uterus of women has a bridge that is a kind of wall in the uterus, dividing it into sections. This is why the embryo cannot develop normally.
Another kind of abnormality is having a fibroid in the uterus. These are benign tumors. In the majority of the cases they do not cause miscarriage, but they could prevent the embryo from having a normal development.
Chromosomal abnormalities
These are the most common risk factors of loss of baby. Usually these abnormalities are linked to the division of the cells that carry the genetic information of people. In case a couple experiences miscarriages several times, this is something that doctors take into consideration.
About half of all fetal tissues come with chromosomal abnormalities, and so it is just natural that this is the most common one of the causes of abortion. In the majority of the cases it takes effect in the first trimester.
