A Checklist For The Expectant Dad – Part 2

expectant dadSpeaking about the things that an expectant dad needs to take care of, as the countdown to fatherhood draws near, here are some more items that should be on the checklist of the dad to be:

1. Take time off. While some organizations do offer paid paternity leave, many don’t.

However, it is a good idea to take time off when the baby arrives and expectant dads can plan for this in advance.

2. Get support. It isn’t just the female prerogative to feel anxious, stressed and even suffers depression while pregnant as well as the baby blues after the baby arrives – men feel these emotions too and needn’t be ashamed of admitting to them.

Beware of depression and if required get into support groups or other fatherhood forums which may help to understand your feelings and come to terms with them.

3. Take a birthing decision. Consider the pros and cons of being present for the birth, and also the wishes of the mother to be.

Also, very important, consider your own – if you are not comfortable with the idea of being present for the birth, let it be known and take an informed decision rather than feel pressured by expectations and conventions.
