Zygote intrafallopian transfer or ZIFT is a reproductive procedure that is very similar to in vitro fertilization procedure (IVF) and embryo transfer.
The only difference is that in ZIFT, the fertilized egg is transferred into the fallopian tube instead of uterus.
This procedure is also called as tubal embryo transfer because the fertilized egg is directly transferred into the fallopian tubes.
The only necessary thing to undergo this procedure is you should have healthy fallopian tubes to work Zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT) successfully.
Most of the practitioners recommend this type of treatment as a great option for infertility problems. Generally, this procedure is recommended for couples who are not able to conceive after trying for at least one year and who do not show significant results in 5-6 cycles of ovarian stimulation by using intrauterine insemination.
On average, 36% of the women can become pregnant who undergoes ZIFT, whereas 29% of the women can have live births.
In this procedure, several eggs are placed in the fallopian tubes, so there is high chance for multiple pregnancies with twins, triplets or more. Also, there is high risk of ectopic pregnancy with this procedure.
