When thinking about ovulation and conception you should know that in the majority of the cases women don’t know exactly when they get pregnant.
The doctors determine the due date based on when you had your LPM. This means about two weeks before you actually get pregnant.
During each month there are eggs growing inside follicles in your ovaries. One of these eggs is set free from the follicle and this process is known as ovulation. In the majority of the cases this happens two weeks before you have your next menstrual period.
If you are thinking about fertilization and ovulation you should know that after the egg gets out of the follicle, it becomes the corpus luteum. Then corpus luteum releases a kind of hormone that makes the lining of the uterus thicken, preparing it for a possible pregnancy.
In case you are interested in ovulation and insemination you should know that after the egg gets released, it travels down the fallopian tubes. It stays there for 24 hours, waiting to be fertilized. As it has been mentioned before, this usually happens two weeks after the previous menstrual period.
The women thinking about ovulation and fertilization should know that if the egg isn’t fertilized, it moves to the uterus and here it disintegrates. The hormonal levels also return to normal. During your period the uterus’ lining sheds and it clears out along with the disintegrated egg.
You have to think about insemination and ovulation if there is sperm which makes to the fallopian tube where it buries itself into the egg. This is the moment when the egg gets fertilized. At this moment the egg changes and so no other sperm has the ability to fertilize it. Also this is the moment when the gender of the baby is set.
When considering conception after ovulation, this is the next step to think about. After fertilization, the egg spends about 3-4 days in the fallopian tubes. However a day after fertilization the cells start dividing very fast. Slowly it moves to the uterus, while the cells go on dividing. After this it attaches to the uterus’ lining and this is implantation.
In some cases after ovulation and impregnation women notice some bleeding or spotting. After implantation the endometrium thickens and the cervix gets sealed with a mucus plug. This will not move until labor. You will know that you are in labor because this mucus plug will be released.
A week after fertilization after conception the body will produce human chorionic gonadotropin that can be detected in the urine and in the blood. It is produced by the cells which will later become the placenta. The pregnancy tests are meant to detect this kind of hormone. You may have to wait for 3-4 weeks before you can take a pregnancy test and have an accurate result.
