Can A Pregnant Woman Still Have Periods?

Always remember that periods and pregnancy can never occur simultaneously. Missing the periods is your first sign of pregnancy.

Bleeding during pregnancy is a very common condition during the early periods, but this is not the sign for your regular menstrual cycle.

One thing you need to know is that the hormones developed during your pregnancy will completely prevent the process of ovulation.

This is the period during which an egg is released into your uterus so that you will experience menstrual bleeding. In a pregnant woman the egg is already fertilized, so there no chance of bleeding during your pregnancy.

Usually, the irregular bleeding during pregnancy is of dark brown or light pinkish. It is not always feasible to find the cause of prenatal spotting or pregnancy bleeding.

Bleeding during pregnancy in early pregnancy periods:

Bleeding that occurs during early stages of pregnancy is not a regular menstrual period. Usually it is termed as early pregnancy bleeding. This bleeding during pr

egnancy may cause little confusion in calculating the delivery date and even delay you in receiving medical care.

Sometimes it will be hard to tell the pregnancy due date when you are uncertain about your last menstrual period.

During this condition, in order to calculate the due date, just focus on these dates: The date you had unprotected sex, the date when your pregnancy turned as positive and the date you have noticed your early pregnancy symptoms.

If you are uncertain about these dates also then ultrasound test is the best way to determine your baby’s due date.

Implantation bleeding:

Most of the pregnant women experience bleeding for few days at the time when the early embryo is implanting into the walls of the uterus.

Usually, you will experience this condition about five days after the conception and obviously it will be confused to regular menstrual period. But, don’t fear about this condition, it will not create any problem in your pregnancy.

Conceiving when you are using birth control pills:

According to the studies, women who acquire pregnancy while they are on the birth control pills can also experience intermittent bleeding. You will experience few episodes of this bleeding during pregnancy before you come to know that you are pregnant.

Ectopic pregnancy:

Ectopic pregnancy is also a problem that can cause bleeding during pregnancy. If your pregnancy has been identified in the fallopian tube, it may burst.

Miscarriage:

More than 15 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage. Vaginal bleeding is the main sign of miscarriage. Remember one thing that, the women who have bleeding during pregnancy can deliver healthy baby.

Cervical changes:

Infections in your cervix may also cause bleeding during pregnancy. During your pregnancy, most of the blood flows to your cervix. Sometimes you may experience harmless vaginal bleeding after contact with your cervix, such as pelvic exam or sex.

When to consult your health care provider?

You will experience vaginal bleeding in your first trimester pregnancy; usually it goes away within a day. If your vaginal bleeding lasts for more than a day then you should contact your health care provider immediately.

Signs that indicate you to visit your practitioner:

  • Bleeding associated with fever, cramping, abdominal pain or chills
  • Moderate or heavy bleeding
  • Pass tissue from vagina

Don’t be worried about the bleeding during pregnancy as it is a normal condition and most of the pregnant women will experience it. But, you need to remember one thing that you need to contact your health care provider in excessive cases.
