Understanding Ovulation Cycle

In case you would like to get pregnant, it may be good for you to know more about your ovulation cycle. This is one of the most important factors in case you would like to conceive and it also gives you a window when you have the chance of conceiving, because you have a fertile egg.

Tracking ovulation and the cycle of ovulation

You may know that the menstrual cycle refers to the time period between the first day of your period and the last day before your next period. Generally speaking the menstrual cycle of women is of 28-32 days but it could also be shorter or longer. This is the basis of calculating ovulation.

If you know when you have your cycle of ovulation, you should think like this: 12-16 days from the following period. In the majority of the cases women ovulate between days 11 and 21 of their menstrual cycle, calculated from the last menstrual period. This is known as the fertile window of women.

If you know your ovulation cycle you should have unprotected intercourse during this time to increase your chances of getting pregnant. The truth is that ovulation could happen at different times in a cycle and the cycle could vary from one month to the other. This is why it is important to track the cycle.

The two parts of ovulation

When it comes to the cycle of ovulation you should know that the first phase is known as follicular phase. This starts with the last day of the last menstrual period and it goes on until ovulation. This part of the process could vary greatly form one woman to the other, ranging between 7 and 40 days.

The second phase of the ovulation cycle is called luteal phase and it lasts between the day of ovulation and the first day of your next period. This phase has a more precise time frame, of 12-16 days. This means that the day of ovulation determines the length of the cycle.

As a result, when it comes to the cycle of ovulation this, along with stress, disruption of normal routine and illness could also lead to a change of the time when you get your period. In the past people believed that stress affects your menstrual cycle. This is only half true because stress actually affects ovulation.

One of the ways you could use to track your ovulation cycle is fertility awareness. This means that you will have to keep track of the changes of the cervical mucus and also to use a basal thermometer.

Around ovulation the cervical mucus will turn slippery and watery, something like egg whites and this lasts until ovulation is over.

Regarding the cycle of ovulation it is also important to use the basal thermometer in order to observe the rises in the body temperature. In case you see a rise, it means that you are ovulating around that time. You should keep track of all this with the help of a calendar or some other tool.

Some other ways to find out information about ovulation cycle is to use a fertility monitor or fertility kit. You can find these in drugstores or online. In case you know more about your cycle you will have a better idea of when you have higher chances of getting pregnant.

After your cycle of ovulation is over, there is nothing left for you to do to increase your chances of getting pregnant. Once it is over all you can do is to wait for the next ovulation cycle to get pregnant.
