Is Teeth Bleaching Okay During Childbearing Stage?

There is no proved evidence that bleaching during childbearing stage poses risks to you and your unborn baby. You need to be conscious about the various issues concerning oral hygiene during pregnancy.

During the pregnancy, there are various hormonal fluctuations taking place in your body. These altered levels influence your oral health and also various other areas of wellbeing.

The changes in hormones cause your gums to become sensitive to plaque. If you already have a gum disease, then pregnancy will intensify it. So, during pregnancy, it is very essential to follow good oral hygiene.

Pregnancy increases the flow of blood throughout your body so that your gums become swollen. With this, you are more vulnerable to gum disease. Most of you experience bleeding from your gums, especially while flossing or brushing.

Also, the production of saliva in the mouth increases at this time.

When you want to visit the dentist at this time, you should tell him/her if you are planning pregnancy or already pregnant. Since, dental x-rays during pregnancy are not safe to consider.

Tips to keep good oral hygiene during pregnancy:

  • Brush carefully twice a day, particularly in the early morning and before going to bed.
  • If possible, you can brush after having every meal.
  • You should brush if you vomit to clean your mouth and teeth.
  • It is suggested to use soft bristled and good quality brush and the tooth paste should contain fluoride.
  • If you feel any pain after you brush the teeth, you can use ice tube to relieve the pain and reduce the swelling.
  • Avoid smoking or drinking wine as they can show a critically negative impact on your pregnancy.
  • Eating fruits and vegetables such as pears, apples, carrots and celery show a natural cleansing effect on your teeth.
  • Chewing a sugarless gum can also clean your teeth.
  • The gums are bleeding and are painful.
  • The bad breath does not go away.
  • Any tooth is lost or if you have severe pain in the tooth.
  • If you observe any lump in the mouth.

Immediately consult your dentist if:

Tooth decay and gum diseases cause an infection that can finally result in an infection that can complicate your pregnancy.

So, alternative to teeth bleaching, you can consider whitening toothpastes as they contain fewer bleaching agents than professional treatment methods. While brushing, don’t swallow any toothpaste and thoroughly rinse afterward to avoid the effect on your baby.
