What Happens in the First Month of Pregnancy?

The funny thing about the first month of pregnancy is that in the majority of the cases women don’t even know that they are pregnant. So, what happens in the first month of pregnancy?

The gestational age is determined based on the last menstrual period of women. This means that the first month refers to the two weeks prior to conception and the two weeks after conception.

This means that during the first month you are pregnant for only two weeks. Although it may seem strange, this convention is used because women can’t really know when they got pregnant and so they will have a standard starting point.

Although you have been pregnant for only a couple of weeks, it is possible that you have already experienced some of the pregnancy symptoms.

The symptoms could be misleading because they are very similar to the symptoms that women have right before they have their menstrual period. Because of this in many cases women have no idea that it’s not their period that they are dealing with but a new pregnancy.

The first symptoms

Just as any other month, the pregnancy’s first month varies from one woman to the other. Similarly the time of appearance of the symptoms also vary, not to mention that not all women have the same symptoms.

There are some women saying that they actually felt the conception as a special sensation or pain.

The first signs of pregnancy can be seen during the first week after conception. This may appear in the form of light spotting caused by implantation. This usually occurs 6-12 days after fertilization. The spotting is caused by the fact that the fertilized egg implants into the lining of the uterus and women usually mistake it for their period.

There is a lot to know about the first month and it is natural that expectant women may want to know more about the topic.
