Is frequent urination a sign of pregnancy? The answer is yes!
Frequent urination is one of the earliest sings of pregnancy and it starts in about the sixth week of pregnancy.
During pregnancy the blood volume in your body also rises by 50%. This means that the kidneys have 50% more blood to process and there will be more waste products ending up in the bladder.
Urination gets more frequent especially during the night. This is because when you lie down, the fluid that has been retained in the lower extremities gets back into the bloodstream and a part of it reaches the bladder.
According to the studies conducted regarding frequent urination during pregnancy the frequency and the amount of urine increased as the pregnancy progressed and there was no relief until childbirth.
Still you shouldn’t let this bring you down. Most probably you will feel better in the second trimester so running to the toilet all the time won’t seem that bothering.
In order to make sure that you will need fewer trips to the bathroom you should avoid the drinks that have diuretic effects, such as tea and coffee.
Another thing that you could do is to lean forward during urination to empty the bladder completely.
There is no point in drinking less to have fewer bathroom visits. Staying well hydrated is important for both the baby and the mother.
Drink plenty of water during the day, but cut back a bit a couple of hours before going to bed to avoid frequent night urination while being pregnant. This is just a symptom that women have to live with.
