Is Zoloft Safe During Pregnancy?

It is a known fact that in some cases women are thinking about Zoloft and pregnancy even if they try to do their best to make sure that they have a healthy pregnancy.

They could have a healthy nutrition, give up coffee and alcohol but still consider taking antidepressants. But is Zoloft safe during pregnancy?

The medication is also known as Sertraline. In fact it is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. The truth is that it is associated with different kinds of birth defects if women take it during their pregnancy.

One of the possible birth defects is persistent pulmonary hypertension in case of the newborns. This is a serious lung deficiency, but it occurs only rarely.

Some other birth defects include septal heart defects. Your child may also suffer from the rare birth condition called omphalocele, a birth defect that affects the organs found in the abdomen.

According to the most recent studies conducted in the field it is possible for the medication to have something to do with autism disorder.
