A recent study examined the phenomenon of daughters following their mother’s advice when it came to their own pregnancy. It was found by a study conducted by University of London and published in the Journal of Health Psychology on 14 May 2010, that even more than the doctor’s advice; the pregnant women chose to follow that of their mothers.
Now women turn to advice not only from family, but also doctors, midwives, magazines, books, the internet etc.
In spite of these various sources of information and advice, they are still likely to follow family advice, the study found.
This may, in some cases be counterproductive because this may make women resistant to certain types of advice.
For instance traditional beliefs may say a pregnant woman must eat for two but this is not the case.
It may cause anxiety to follow to all of doctors’ advice so that is not the best idea either; it is best to strike a balance about the advice that a pregnant woman takes.
