All you Need to Know About Chewable and Liquid Prenatal Vitamins

Prenatal vitamins are those vitamins which are recommended to a pregnant woman since they help the life growing inside her and also provide her many benefits.  During pregnancy, the body’s nutritional needs change and the requirement for certain vitamins and minerals may increase.

This is why doctors suggest prenatal vitamins which are available in two major types-chewable prenatal vitamins and liquid prenatal vitamins. The following is information on both kinds of prenatal vitamins so that you can choose which one is more suitable for you.

Liquid Prenatal Vitamins

Liquid prenatal vitamins are taken like daily supplements and are easy to use. They don’t need to be swallowed like tablets and get easily digested as well.  The liquid forms can be taken with any other liquids like juices, milk and even water.  These vitamins ensure that the body doesn’t fall short on important nutrients like iron, phosphorus and calcium.  These vitamins however must only be taken if the doctor recommends them and not without prescription. These supplements also prevent common health disorders during pregnancy such as loss in appetite, morning sickness and diarrhea.

There are two major types of liquid prenatal vitamins – organic vitamins and non organic. Organic prenatal liquid vitamins are those which are available in the natural form of vitamins and minerals.  While consuming organic ones, you need to pay attention to the fact that the supplement only has vitamins in it and it is not a mixture of herbs.

Chewable Prenatal Vitamins

When a woman is pregnant, she may experience morning sickness which may make it difficult for her to swallow pills or tablets and in such situations, chewable prenatal vitamins prove to be of great help. These vitamin supplements don’t need to be swallowed with water but can be chewed like food. It is important to know that these vitamins have no special advantage over liquid prenatal vitamins in terms of the health or other benefits. Chewable prenatal vitamins are often recommended to those who may not be too comfortable with drinking the vitamins and prefer chewing them.

Both liquid and chewable prenatal vitamin supplements offer the same benefits and only differ in terms of the method of consuming them. It is a matter of personal choice and no one is particularly better than the others. Both varieties are easily available in the market and one can give both a try to decide which one they are more comfortable with.

Prenatal vitamins consist of vitamin C, vitamin C, folic acid, iron, calcium, phosphorus and many other nutrients which a pregnant woman and the baby might need.  Where on one hand, iron deficiency can make a pregnant woman anemic, calcium and phosphorus shortage can make the bones weak.

Folic acid too is considered very important during pregnancy since is reduces the chances of dangers at the time of delivery and also minimize risk of defects in the newborn. Prescription supplements of vitamins are customized from woman to woman and many different compositions are available.
