Learn to Spot the Signs of Ovulation

Usually women are interested in signs of ovulation because they want to know when they have their most fertile period also known as fertility window. In the majority of the cases it is the period prior to your ovulation, so you should have intercourse during this period if you want to get pregnant.

Information about ovulation signs

Women must understand the signals that their body is sending to them to know when they ovulate and if you get good at this you will be able to see a pattern and you can predict in time your fertile window. This way you will know when to have intercourse to increase the chances of pregnancy.

Changes in the cervical mucus

As one of the ovulation signs you should be tracking the changes of the cervical mucus. When it comes to the analysis of this fluid there are three characteristics that you can be referring to – quantity, appearance and color, and texture. This way you will know what kind of mucus you have.

Non-fertile cervical mucus

It isn’t one of the signs of ovulation if you have scant cervical mucus or no mucus at all. It is possible to experience some dryness or firm or sticky mucus that doesn’t stretch between the fingertips. You can expect it to be opaque and it should have a yellow or white color. It appears early and late during the menstrual cycle.

Transitional cervical mucus

As you get closer to experiencing the ovulation signs, your body produces more estrogen that makes the cervical mucus change. Most probably you will notice that there is more cervical mucus than before, it becomes thinner and it isn’t able to hold its form anymore. The stickiness should also disappear.

Fertile cervical mucus is one of the ovulation signs

When the signs of ovulation start to show there is supposed to be a big change regarding the cervical mucus, it should be stretchy, thin, and abundant. If you do the finger test it should stretch and not break between the fingers. It should be translucent and you should be able to see through it.

The cervix

Just as the cervical mucus, the cervix could also show some ovulation signs. You can observe these through the examination of the cervix. If you do auto examination, make sure that you have clean and dry fingers. As you get closer to ovulation, the cervix will get moist and soft.

As one of the signs of ovulation, the cervical entrance opens and the tip of the cervix lifts. Naturally these are some general guidelines and you have to monitor the cervix throughout your cycle to be able to observe the possible changes. One of the best things you could do is to keep a fertility chart and note the changes.

In case you have a chart with the ovulation signs you will be able to recognize a pattern. It is also possible that you will find a unique sign that shows that you are fertile.

Basal body temperature

This one of the possible signs of ovulation is also known as BBT. Tracking your temperature is often considered to be the basis of a fertility chart. All you have to do is to measure your body temperature every morning before getting out of bed. During ovulation the progesterone levels increase and they heat up the body.

This is why one of the signs of ovulation is a rise of the body temperature. This change starts with your ovulation and the BBT drops again before you have your next period. You could use this method to know when ovulation took place.
