It is also good to know that the hCG levels are higher in case of multiple pregnancies. If the levels don’t increase as they are supposed to, this might mean that there is some problem with the pregnancy.

Possible problems

If the beta hCG levels when being pregnant don’t rise as they should, it is possible that you have a non-viable pregnancy that will be ended by a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. It is possible that you have an ectopic pregnancy if the hCG levels are over 1000 mIU/l and the doctors can’t see the amniotic sac.

In order to have reliable results, the beta hCG levels in early pregnancy should be measured two days before when you are supposed to have your next menstrual period. In the past the test was done using a urine test. In our days the pregnancy kits are really accurate and they can detect a pregnancy 1-2 days after a missed period.

You can test for the beta hCG levels of pregnant women at home on your own. However the results are more accurate if you have a blood test.
