Before thinking about the signs of ectopic pregnancy you should know that this refers to the situation when the fertilized egg gets implanted outside the uterus. It has been noted that about 1 in every 50 pregnancies is an ectopic one. In this case there is no way to save the pregnancy.

You should know that these symptoms can appear right at the early stages of pregnancy and they can vary from one woman to the other. At the beginning the ectopic pregnancy signs could include abdominal pain or tenderness or some vaginal bleeding. This could be light and sporadic at the beginning. In some cases the problem is recognized when women go to their 1st prenatal visit and she experiences pain during the exam.

It is also possible regarding the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy that the doctor finds a mass in the abdomen. Sometimes women have an ultrasound for some reason and during this the doctor finds the pregnancy that is located outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tubes.

Handling the signs of an ectopic pregnancy

If you see any of the symptoms of the problem, you should make sure that you take them seriously. In order to avoid a rupture that is a real emergency, you should get diagnosed and treated as soon as you suspect that there might be something wrong. The best thing you could do is to call your doctor.

Alarming symptoms of a pregnancy that is ectopic

You could experience some pelvic pain or abdominal pain or tenderness. It is possible that the pain is abrupt, severe and persistent, but it is also possible for it to be intermittent and mild at the beginning. Most probably the pain will get worse if you do physical activity, during coughing or bowel movements.

Sometimes women see this one of the signs of ectopic pregnancy only on one side, but these could appear just anywhere in the abdomen or the pelvis. The pain that you feel can be sharp or dull and it could be accompanied by vomiting or nausea.

Some vaginal bleeding or spotting could also be the symptom of ectopic pregnancy. This becomes a symptom only in case you had a positive pregnancy test before. At the beginning it could look like a light menstrual period. The blood could be brown or red with the color of dried blood.

Although usually women don’t think about the ectopic pregnancy signs when they have a shoulder pain, this could also be one of the symptoms. If the problem appears when you lie down, it is a sure indication of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and it is important to seek immediate medical help.
