19 Weeks Pregnant

-The Baby Becomes Taller!

Some radical changes take place when you are 19 weeks pregnant. There are two reasons behind this – one is there are actually faster changes during this period and the second is that the changes are more noticeable.

As time progresses, there is considerable increase in the height of the baby. As your baby’s legs are developed and straightened up, your doctor can measure the fetal growth from head to toe but not from crown to rump.

Pelvic pain makes itself known during this week and this is your body telling you, that you are almost half through the pregnancy. Along with these, you will also observe some more changes in you and your baby’s body when you are in week 19 pregnancy.

Pregnancy exercise

During this time, pregnancy exercise is the most important thing that you need to concentrate on.

Most of the physicians recommend you to start the pregnancy-friendly exercise regimen for healthy development of you and your baby.

Walking, yoga, and small weight training are the good ones for your heart and overall stamina during this physically challenging time.

Regular exercise practice can greatly help you increase the overall flexibility so that you experience less tension and pain at the time of labor. Also, regular workout helps you stay away from unnecessary weight gain

Balance issues

When you are 19 weeks pregnant, you might also feel lightheaded more often than once and may find it difficult to go uphill or climb downhill. Also you will find hard to balance yourself as your center of gravity is off. You will also find it difficult to change your position and/or get up from a chair.

Digestive tract issues

You will notice slight increase in the discomfort due to heartburn because your uterus pushes up against the belly. With this, the movement of the food through digestive tract slows down and the nutrients reach the fetus more efficiently. So, try to have smaller meals instead of larger ones as it greatly helps the patients with heartburn.

Avoid eating anything right before the bed time. Antacids that consist of calcium will give a great relief from heartburn. Consult your health care provider before going for any medications for heartburn relief.

Round ligament pain

During the 19th week of pregnancy, you may notice that your lower abdomen is somewhat achy because of the increased size and pulling on the round ligaments. This is usually called as round ligament pain and is very common when you are 19 weeks pregnant.

Skin issues and linea nigra

Due to increased level of melanin, the linea nigra appears more obvious and you can also notice dark skin spots appearing on the arms’ skin. The spots will disappear after you give birth. You may also notice that your palms may have a reddish color. This is the result of the increased level of estrogen during this week.

Care to take when you are in 19th week of pregnancy

Melanin and dark skin problem

The estrogen and the progesterone – the pregnancy hormones – are the ones dictating the body to produce more melanin which is impossible for the dark color of the skin in some areas of the body.

You cannot control the hormonal growth; however you can control the amount of sun your skin receives. In order to avoid the darkening skin issue you should avoid a lot of time spent in the sun.

More skin issues

In pregnancy 19 weeks, you can start experiencing the sensation of dry skin in certain areas of the body. This can be helped making sure you are hydrated enough and also that you are using cocoa based moisturizing lotions.

Due to the accelerated perspiration, the skin can become irritated. It is better to wear light clothing starting with this week and avoid the food rich in sugar which aggravates the issue.

Changes that occur in the fetus when you are 19 weeks pregnant

By this week, your 19 week fetus is around 10 inches in length and weighs about eight and half ounces and the growth of your baby is very fast now.

The size of your baby will be 15 times more at the time of the delivery. By 19 weeks, your baby’s brain begins to form pockets to specialize in taste, smell, vision, hearing, and even touch.

There will be regular functioning of the baby’s kidneys and they continue to make urine. Also, the growth of the hair on your child’s scalp continues until the birth of your baby.

Digestion and results

This week, your little one will begin on an appetizing diet of amniotic fluid. Now your child can swallow, digest and pass the fluids through its tiny large intestines.

When you are in pregnancy week 19 your baby’s first bowel movements start to appear quite often. What is excreted as a result of the baby’s bowel movement is called ‘Meconium’ which is blackish green in color.

Vernix

Also the baby will be covered by a white sticky substance called ‘vernix’ which helps keep the baby’s skin soft and supple even after being in water for so many weeks.

Gender features

The development of reproductive organs continues rapidly and the organs are organized to maintain future generations. By this week, your little girl will have already produced over six million eggs in her ovaries, but the number is decreased up to 4 million at the time of the birth.

The doctor will clearly observe the uterus in a baby girl and the testicles are apparent in a baby boy. In the 19 weeks pregnant ultrasound scan, the penis is easily identifiable.

Sex during 19 weeks pregnancy

Most of the pregnant women think that sex during pregnancy is not safe and it will hurt the developing baby. But, this is completely wrong.
